Under the leadership of Richard M. Daley the City of Chicago aggressively pursued an ambitious environmental agenda, and earned a spot as an international leader in sustainability. However, over the past three years the city has eliminated the Department of Environment
as well as the Chicago Center for Green Technology’s educational programming
. These are only two of the most troubling indicators that the City has abandoned its environmental commitments and is in danger of losing the sustainable community leadership that was fostered within the Department of Environment and CCGT programming. Both of these changes were instituted with little notice, and no public discussion.
The voters of the City of Chicago deserve to know whether the candidates up for election will help restore the City’s Environmental leadership.
